Second Week Accomplished

To be honest this is the first time I have ever written on a blog before so you must forgive me for any poor blog etiquette, but that isn’t what I am here to talk about. Hopefully you listened to me and Raakel’s show this last Tuesday. If were listening in and noticed that Raakel’s voice seemed to be vacant, it would be because she had some important traveling to attend to, with that said there is no need to fear I am very hopeful she will be back next week. On the second week of Skandinavi, neglecting small difficulties, I think the show went very well, and I experimented with some very unique Scandinavian music. The theme this week was a little vaguer but revolved around styles of music that many people from else where in the world would not think of as purely Scandinavian. From the panda bear-esque tough alliance all the way to the heavy avant-garde styling’s of Nils Petter Molvær’s trumpet, the show hit all levels of music. With this said I am sure next weeks show will be even better, with the awaited return of Raakel, it is surely something to mark on the calendar so make sure to tune in next Tuesday from 5-6pm at 91.3 kcpr in San Luis Obispo.

Featured Artist of the Week: Nuspirit Helsinki
For the second week in a row we have chosen our featured artist from the country of Finland, and this band does truly deserve its featured appearance. Nuspirit Helsinki is a super-group of sorts, but this a super-group from the entire country of Finland. Started by Tuomas Kallio and Hannu Nieminen, Nuspirit Helsinki is band made up of some of Finland’s most talented, musicians, producers, and DJ’s. Each track resembles a different genre of music, and though the overall style is categorized by Nu-Jazz, the feeling left by this band is all over the music spectrum. Songs like “Trying” begin to break down music walls by drifting from dance music, to hip hop then back to jazz with the listener never the wiser. The band was originally formed in 1998 and released the self titled album in 2002 and still plan to make another album in the near future. For more information visit nuspirit.com.
